Fall of the House of Thomas, Part 1

I realize that I mentioned “the house falling apart” in a post a while back and didn’t say much more than that.

With the current exchange rate calculating a picture to be roughly 1000 English Words, I hereby present to you a many-thousand-word essay on the state of our living quarters.

Warning: these photos suck. But they get the point across.

I woke up the morning after one of the coldest nights of the year to the relaxing sound of a waterfall cascading from the study ceiling onto the floor. The cause of this downpour:

Three Burst PipesThree burst baseboard heating pipes, that had likely frozen the previous night. No, those aren’t Zamfir’s pan-pipe rejects.

The ceiling tiles, removed
Luckily, no electronics were hurt before we could stem the tide. We shut off the water and eventually my father-in-law came to the rescue.
In order for him to do his thing, though, we needed to remove a bunch of ceiling tiles.

In the meantime, we discovered another water issue with the dishwasher. It had been producing a slow, steady leak for who knows how long. We wouldn’t have discovered it were it not for accidentally dropping a piece of cat food under it then going to retrieve said cat food only to find it soaking wet.

Mmmm...floor mulch... The leak had almost completely damaged the floor in that corner of the kitchen, so much that an attempt by my brother-in-law to get to the non-damaged parts made it look less like floorboards, and more like mulch.

Between the stove and the pipes, I think your house has evolved into a living, thinking, and vengeful art form.

Wow that sucks! We had our pipes burst in Feb. Water EVERY where. Good thing we had a dry/wet vac. Hope we can avoid that this year! We still have to replace the pipes that we patched in Feb… Hopefully we get a jump on it before winter comes again!
