Future houseblogger?
Some of you (OK…just Geof) have wondered about my recent lack of online activity. Well, let me tell ya…things have been crazy around here.
The biggest thing happening for us right now is that we’re buying a house. Our offer was accepted on Monday for a late 1800’s farmhouse in Richmond, Maine. We just met with our mortgage broker yesterday to sign some preliminary paperwork. I’ve been told that the process doesn’t get any less surreal, and oddly enough, I’m looking forward to it. Carla and I were talking about this yesterday, and we’ve both never been so happy to sign our lives away…
Because of the age, it’s going to need a lot of renovation, particularly in the upstairs. Thankfully, most of it is cosmetic. We’re just praying that the inspector (who’s looking at the property next Monday) won’t find any major foundation work or anything else. I’m not the handiest guy in the world, but I’m kind of excited to learn a little more about renovations. I’ve started to read a few houseblogs lately to prepare myself by realizing the amount of actual work that goes into this.
It also helps to have a professional carpenter for a father-in-law and a bunch of others on Carla’s side of the family with workshops and substantial tool collections…
