Two reasons to read the comment threads at the Onion AV Club

1) In a discussion of morally dubious holiday entertainments, the idea of keeping Christ in Christmas was brought up. One person’s response:

Likewise, I believe in the importance of keeping Thor in Thursdays. That’s why once a week I drink excessively and smash things.

2) The AV Club’s list of the least essential albums of the year somehow morphed into a debate over the origin of the phrase “Ain’t no party like a _____ party, ’cause a _____ party don’t stop” (the origin, of course, being P-Funk), someone suggested that it may have been “a Donner party.” To which another user responded:

I do believe that a Donner party stops. You have to run out of hor’dourves at some point.

I’m sure they lose some, or all, of their humor being pulled so blatantly out of context. Ah, the things that amuse me…

You know, it never fails that every year, I find that I own an album on their Least Essential list.
