An experiment in forced optimism
Carla’s counselor sent her home from her session last night with some homework, which she shared with me.
Notice and record anything that goes right throughout the day.
With all the stuff going on in our lives lately (which reminds me, I’m still working on a “house is falling down around us” post - with illustrations! Excitement awaits…), focusing on the most minute positivity requires a huge shift in thinking right now.
To this end, I’ve carved out some space in my huge ever-growing pulsating sidebar (okay, maybe it’s not “pulsating” per se…but I couldn’t resist an Orb reference) for “Things Going Right.” If you’re reading this site via feed, I hope it won’t create too much noise. Let me know if the constant barrage of minuscule positivity gets to be too much.
And for now, I leave you with the sage words of Mr. Paul Simon, from his song “Something So Right“:
When something goes wrong
I’m the first to admit it
I’m the first to admit it
And the last one to knowWhen something goes right
Well, it’s likely to lose me
It’s apt to confuse me
It’s such an unusual sight
I can’t get used to something so right

What’s a “Twitter”? If I had a sexually promiscuous parakeet, I would name it “Twitter.” Anyway, you should add being a good friend and husband to your list of things done right, because you do that right every day.

Had I passed my cursor over the right spot on your sidebar, my question would have been answered for me. That still doesn’t change how I feel about the naming of horny budgies.
