The O’Dell Files: 2007 Edition

A little history lesson for those who might be new to this blog:

A few years back, I posted a short piece about how my buddy John and I used to watch really bizarre stuff on late-night TV, and thus became fans of the knife-selling stylings of one Mr. Tom O’Dell. I’m not even all that into knives, swords, and the like, but watching O’Dell and his co-host hawk these things was incredible entertainment.

To date, my O’Dell post is the most popular entry on this blog. Since first posting it back in January 2004, there’s been a small but steady flow of people linking to the site, adding their own O’Dell experiences, pointing out more stuff on the net about O’Dell: the man, the myth, the “Richard the Lionheart special” hawker. I’d normally think about shutting off comments after a certain amount of time, but the comment thread has taken on a life of its own - I’m curious to see how much longer it can go.

Anyway, the reason I bring it up is a clip I discovered on YouTube of O’Dell hawking his wares on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

He seems curiously subdued compared to his Shop At Home glory days, but it’s good to see the man in a different context.

And I don’t care how many times I see it, that clip of Shawn Leflar getting attacked by the katana still makes me laugh.

I have to say, Tom’s looking fit. Those were good times, my friend. And it’s nice to see that something never change.
