Friday Roundup: Music Edition
The next time I feel like ranting about the dangers of mixing art, faith, and commerce together, I think I’ll just post a link to Andrew Osenga’s website. He’s experienced a lot more of the weird and ugly side of making music as a Christian than I probably ever will, and talks about it much more eloquently than I ever have.
Case in point: over the past few days, he’s written two excellent posts on some seeming hypocrisy on both the CCM and mainstream sides of the fence (Part 1, Part 2). “No man’s land” is his description of where he is in the artistic landscape. Read it.
Elsewhere, Bob Lefsetz decried the death of the album. Scott Andrew offered his own take on the subject, with some good comments by his readers. Having written a couple of songs that people have connected with (maybe these are my “singles”?), I think Lefsetz has the right idea, especially for new artists, but I sincerely hope the “ipod generation” doesn’t rid the world of the desire to make full-length artistic statements.
