I’ll get it better, starting now
I know that all two of you have been waiting with rapt attention for my latest missive from the rarefied world of rural central Maine homeownership and more-indie-than-indie record-making. It’s been over a month since I posted anything of substance. So, in the spirit of catching up, let me recap what’s gone on since my last substantive post.
* On May 15th,I had a birthday. My 32nd. Celebrated it by going to see Glen Phillips play at Asylum in Portland. The show was really good, but nowhere near as incredible as the first time I saw him. I did, however, get the pleasure of vindicating myself by giving him the correct next line when he forgot the words to “Darkest Hour.” Yup…that’s me saying “Just remind me!” on the live recording of the show. Take that, Yeats-misquoter!
* Carla and I visited our old church in Portland about a month ago to help lead worship. Apparently, one of the downfalls of having predominantly female vocalists in your worship band is that there are no vocalists around when the ladies go on a retreat. As tired as I was of the pressure of being up front by the time we moved last August, I forgot how much I miss the opportunity to praise God with the talents and passions He’s given me.
* I’ve been in a huge retro-80’s phase in my music listening habits. Thus, you’ll see names like Pet Shop Boys, Howard Jones, and other relics of my childhood and early teens showing up on my Last.fm charts. I can only partially blame Jefito and his minions.
* This past weekend, I participated in Capitol to the Coast, a 2-day canoe trip fundraiser dedicated to the ongoing New Orleans hurricane relief effort. It was a 22-mile trip down the Kennebec river, stopping overnight on Swan Island - literally a few miles away from my house - and finishing in Bath. I hadn’t done anything like that since my days as a Boy Scout, but it was an awesome trip. My arm muscles are mostly back to normal now..
That’s all I can think of for the moment. I’m sure more will come to mind over the next few days.
