A hike, a Hyundai, and a guy named Steve

One of the changes I’ve had to adjust to most in our move is commuting to work. For the past 7 years, I’ve lived within a 10 minute drive of my workplace. Now, I have to drive about 50 minutes to get to work. Because of the commute (and Carla’s current state of unemployment) we’re officially a two-car family now. I’ve inherited (or, more officially, bought for a dollar) a 96 Hyundai from my dad. Until now, I’ve always carpooled with Carla and she kept the car, so it’s strange to have a “my car” and “your car” now.

I guess a 50 minute commute isn’t really a “hike,” but I get a lot of “Wow…that must be quite a commute” when I tell co-workers where I’ve moved. So far it hasn’t been too bad — although I’ll probably be dreading it come winter. One of the things that’s helped is my Ipod and especially the way Itunes makes it easy to catalog and listen to podcasts.

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for making my commute easier to bear!
