Keep selling truth in candy bars…

Andrew Osenga has an excellent post today that basically sums up everything I’ve been trying to say about the uneasy link between faith and commerce, and says it far more eloquently than I could.

This even reaches into the microcosmos of local, independent Christian music. I remember trying to sell my first CD Young Man’s Fancy at a Christian bookstore in town. They did accept it. However, after a few weeks, I called the store to see if there were any sales, and was told that it wasn’t overt enough. Which, in its own way, led to the writing of Prodigal Songs as a way to state things more clearly. Since then, I find it interesting that the further I progress in my faith walk, the less I feel the need to prove through my songs that I’m “Christian” enough…
