Computing disaster averted!
Looks like the data locusts didn’t get nearly as much of my stuff as I had thought. In fact, all my documents (and Carla’s) were safely preserved in a 3 gigabyte zip file, which I spent all of last night extracting into its rightful place.
Looks like it might be time to stop being cheap and buy some backup software, because trying to do this the freeware way just ain’t cutting it…

Later today, I’m going to go get a Linksys NSLU2 and a USB 2.0 External Hard Drive to slave to the network. I’m reworking my boxen right now, and I want a place to dump the stuff to for a while…
