Loud guitars, Big Egos
Among other stuff this weekend, we visited the St. Lawrence Arts Center to see the band that’s become my new favorite, Jim’s Big Ego. I’ve known of these guys forever, since the “Jim” in the band name is Jim Infantino, a guy who my buddy John and I saw a few times at open mics in the Worcester area in the early ’90’s. He was funny and commanded a stage even back then, and time hasn’t dimmed the dude’s talent. I now have three of the Ego’s CDs rotating in Itunes, and it’s great stuff. Their songs remind me of early Barenaked Ladies only not as manic. It’s just the right blend of all-out silliness and serious reflection (with stand-up bass and acoustic accents).
And for those of you looking for another reason to like these guys, they just released their latest album under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license, so nobody’s going to storm your house and commandeer your hard drive for sharing a few MP3s.
