My bad…

It’s come to my attention that I may not have been apprised of all the relevant information in my last post. Apparently there is an actual paid version of KaZaa being marketed by Sharman Networks, KaZaa’s parent company. The payment only gets rid of advertising in the client software, though. It makes no assurance of the legitimacy of the files downloaded, but I can see how the average person might thing paying $30 to KaZaa makes it perfectly legal to download.

It all comes down to vigilance. Always, always look into who you’re giving money to, and for what, especially on the internet.

I just sincerely hope the family wasn’t suckered into one of these kinds of scams (note the clever domain misspelling) and their ilk hiding out in Google charging you up to $5 a month for what could be had for free (if you were so inclined to break the law, of course).
